Pillai's Sign 

Pillai's sign is the visible pulasation of the vulva as a sign indicating aortic regurgitation.

Thankyou kindly for asking me to perform a cardiovascular examination of this 22 year old female patient.

On inspection from the end of the bed, the patient seemed calm and comfortable and there were no paraphernalia of cardivasular diease around the patient's bedside.

On closer inspection Corrigan's, de Musset's, Duroziez's and Pillai's Sign were all present.

Rubin's Sign 

The brown stain left on underwear from improper wiping after a bowel movement.

She knew the one night stand would not be repeated when she woke up in the morning and saw Rubin's Sign in his boxers.

Poynter's sign 

med. N. adj. (1) A non-specific testicular swelling due to a pethology, or otherwise. (2) A 2 inch testicular descent upon vocalisation of a low G in bass clef.

Enlargement is graded with a bell (end) shaped normal distribution curve - the Soysa scale. Through stages 1-5, with stage 3 being considered of normal/acceptable size. Stages 1 and 5 are attributed to extreme manifestations of underlying pathology/low pitch.

Investigation and diagnosis is by means of a trou-down, and diagnosis is confirmed by means of illicited transillumination with the laser-Poynter (head torch with multiple light modes).

Treatment is 8x25ml doses of jager (stat) over a one minute period. Relapse is often noted on long bus journeys or in shared accomodation.

Curran's sign 

Echymosis or bruising to the inner aspect of the upper arms (bicipital region), caused by pressure exerted by the hands (usually thumbs) of a sexual partner during the act of copulation/sexual intercourse.

Hmmmm, that girl has bilateral Curran's sign....she obviously puts out.

MacDarby's Sign 

The presence of stool on one's forehead. Occurring generally as the result of a post-rectal-exam glove being flicked at said forehead.

Samsonite's Sign 

A suitcase or suitcases accompanying an elderly or special needs person to the Emergency Department or other hospital waiting room. A sure sign that someone has abandoned the poor individual to the care of healthcare professionals and Society. Named after the world's largest luggage manufacturer producing hardshell luggage honoring the Biblical strongman "Samson."

People presenting with Samsonite's Sign require a great deal of care and are often abandoned by overly tired caregivers. Presently, there is no cure for Samsonite's Sign but many community groups are developing respite care programs for caregviers.

Example: On average, 2 out of 5 patients arrived with Samsonite's sign.
