When not designing new methods of carrying out FPS carnage or dismemberment, he was attending to his rich, luxurious, flowing, hair which, given his near-rockstar status at the time, was not considered homoerotic in the least.
Then... came the infamous and career-destroying FPS-mediocrity that we remember as Daikatana.
Released three years behind schedule, and only after burning through two game engines and over one hundred employees, Daikatana effectively closed an era of PC-gaming, and signaled John Romero's fall from Godhood.
Nevertheless, John Romero's notoriety continues to live on through the power of the Internet -- and the unceasing efforts of meme humorists.

Get the romeia mug.A slang term popular in early/mid 1980s Germany and Austria, which was the equivalent of the English term, "Yuppie". This neologism was used in much the same way to mock a new wave of American-influenced young urban sophisticate twenty-somethings in Austria and West Germany at the time.
Translated from German, "junge Römer" means "young Roman(s)" (the term can denote both singular - when used for a male - and plural), likening the heightened style of living of these young Europeans to that of many of the extravagant upperclass Romans in Rome's Golden Age.
The term was popularized further by Austrian pop/rock singer, Falco, in 1984 with his song by the same name, which glamorized the junge Römer lifestyle (Falco counted himself among this group of people).

He's the director who made zombie films what they are now. He made Night of the Living Dead back in the 60s, Dawn of the Dead in the 70s, Day of the Dead in the 80s, and recently Land of the Dead in 2005 and Diary of the Dead in 2007.
Also made such films as Creepshow, Two Evil Eyes and The Crazies.
His more popular zombie movies are often socially satirical in some way, for example themes about consumerism in Dawn of the Dead and Iraq War allegories in Land of the Dead.
His next zombie film is supposed to be "Survival of the Dead", and it looks like it could be cool.
