The Beatles experimented with many musical styles during a time when rock'n'roll was starting to expand beyond the original forms known as rockabilly, soul and other genres. Hard rock,heavy metal, ska, psychedelic rock and proto-punk were emerging. This party tune has been described by Stewart Copeland of the Police as a brilliant example of early "white reggae". It has lyrics that are kinda kooky and there's a lot of gonzo background singsong nonsence, too. A playful ditty that critics shouldn't take too seriously. It's just plain fun. This tune's title has various other spellings such as "obladi oblada". It has a simple cheerful free-for-all air to it that today's corporate disposable entertainment business doesn't allow.
