Saint Markella is a very important religious figure to the people of this island and her nameday is one of the greatest celebrations of the year. Every 22nd of July, thousands of people flock to Agia Markella, the town and beach named after her, to celebrate said name day.

MARKELLA

Female version of the name Mark (Marcus) : Saint Mark was the author of the second Gospel in the New Testament. He is the patron saint of Venice, where he is supposedly buried.

Markella is a girls name that means warm hearted and good friend. Very independant, strong and opinionated but can have a very casual and relaxed demeanor.

Markellas can be extremely stubborn, but once you have sat them down and talked to them they usually get all warm and fuzzy again. Lover of the feline species. Usually pick names for their cats that are not original!
