Derivation of a hipster, with particular interest in literature. Litsters are involved in writing
poetry, fiction, or non-fiction memoirs. Litsters regularly read
books published by McSweeney's, but swear off New York Times bestsellers unless it is, by chance, a McSweeney's publication (e.g. Dave Eggers' works). Other litster favorites include Kerouac, Bukowski, Thompson, Vonnegut, Foer, Franzen, Zadie Smith, etc. Litsters will typically shop at independent booksellers (who
carry McSweeney's items) over larger conglomerates. Typical litster apparel follows that of a hipster:
black-framed glasses, ironic t-shirts, stripped ties, blazers. They invest in the newest accessories (e.g. iPods), yet their Chuck Taylors will
always look filthy.
