Hampton Roads

“HAMPTON ROADS” is a condensed version of the original name given by the region’s settlers to the harbor in southeastern Virginia known then as: Southampton’s Roadstead.

The term “Hampton” dates from the early 17th century when the first royal governor, Lord de la Ware, named the area in honor of the third Earl of Southampton, Henry Wriothesley, a major investor of the Virginia Company of London, the financial backers of the Jamestown settlers. And, “Roadstead” is an old English word for a protected harbor.

Some things never change: just as sports stadiums, libraries, and college buildings today are named for major sponsors and donors, so it was then.

“HAMPTON ROADS” also refers to the body of water between the Virginia Peninsula (to the North) and Southside, the southern part of southeastern Virginia. It is formed by the confluence of the James, Nansemond and Elizabeth rivers and flows into the Chesapeake Bay whose watershed covers 64,000 square miles and all or part of six states (NY, PA, WV, MD, DE and VA) and DC.

“HAMPTON ROADS” is one of the world’s biggest and deepest natural harbors, the largest in North America, and is home to the world’s largest naval base at Norfolk. “HAMPTON ROADS” has been well known within nautical and maritime communities for centuries.

“HAMPTON ROADS” was widely adopted as the name for the surrounding region in 1984 when two planning districts and Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) merged, placing the region in the nation’s top 50.

Hampton Roads

Located in Southeastern Virginia. Basically a combination of 7 urban cities see seven cities, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Chesapeake.

So there's basically no farmland or suburbs you just travel from city to city...

The population for each city ranges from 150,000 to 600,000 max with the ethnicity being mostly black

Not really known to the rest of America because of absolutely no sports franchises but still each city is bigger than most cities with sports teams..
If Hampton Roads wasnt split up into 7 cities it would be the second biggest city in America...

Hampton Roads

Hampton roads is the reason why America is America. Jamestown the first sustained settlement in english america Williamsburg the nations first capital and Yorktown ware the english surrendered. Hampton Roads is different from the rest of SoVa because one its more urban and a less unemployment rate, The education here in one of the highest in the country and we are the second richest area in the state (NoVa if the first).
Hampton roads is also called the "7cities" because of its 7 mayjor cities in the area (Norfolk,Suffolk,Newport News,Hampton,Porthsmouth,Chesapeake and Virginia Beach). The area is also the only are in the state that has more than two american major city within a metropolitan area (ie. Norfolk,Virginia beach,Newport news,). Outside of the 7 core cities you have small counties cities such as York county,James city county,Gloucester county,Matthews county,Surry county,Isle of Wight county, the cities of Poquoson,Smithfield, and Williamsburg. Hampton roads recently claim counties in north east North Carolina due to the proximity of the bases(ie. Currituck,Dare,Camden, and Paspotank counties). Besides the San Diego area Hampton roads is the only region with all branch of the military due to the proximity of Washingtion DC. also home of the first NASA program (Langely AFB).

Hampton Roads Academy

Hampton Roads Academy is utterly unremarkable, but if it had any quality that anyone gave a shit about, that quality would be stuck-up and pretentious. Collared polo shirts are mandatory in case the “Thou Shalt Be Preppy” rule wasn’t obvious enough, and freedom of self expression is just about nonexistent when it comes to the dress code—blue jeans, tee shirts with graphics on them, shorts, and hoodies, are considered “inappropriate” for school. Much of the student population are spoiled rich kids, who all seem to copy each other and only interact with those who behave the exact same way as them. It’s rare for students to go out of their way to get to know people outside of their social circle. I’ve always hated the lack of social diversity and cliquey-ness of the school, how it is just about nearly impossible to branch out of your own friend group—if you’re lucky enough to even have a friend group. The school has extreme rules, enforced by the tyrannical dean of students. Seniors used to be able to have actual freedom, like being able to go off campus for lunch, and this has been permanently taken away since the construction of the dining hall, because they need all students to pay an extra 2000 dollars a year (built into their 20,000 dollar tuition, of course!) for mediocre lunches. It’s all about public image, they dont actually care about the feelings or happiness of the students. HRA is a business, and money and maintaining its reputation is the top priority there.
“You go to Hampton Roads Academy? Oh god, I’m so sorry.”

“Students at Hampton Roads Academy have barely any freedom, and get two hour detentions for wearing blue jeans.”
The word 'flag' as pronounced by people with thick Belfast accents. The term is a perfect encapsulation of the disproportionate and overblown reaction to the removal of the Union Jack (as in 'de fleg') from above City Hall in Belfast. Where previously it had flown for 365 days per year, it is now flown on 17 designated days of the year - in line with many other British cities.

The event caused a portion of the Protestant community ('fleggers') to make international pricks of themselves as they proceeded to wreck the fucking place, claiming it was another erosion of a 'British' identity they perceive to have been under attack since the horrifying spectre of equality reared its head in Northern Ireland.

The word 'fleg' - and indeed 'fleggers' - fittingly describes a section of humanity unconcerned with knowledge, reality or the vagaries of the English language. Like America's tea-baggers they are ruled by instinct, fear and paranoia with a side dish of rampant bigotry and startling ignorance of the world around them.
"Wat de fuck like! The taigs got de fleg took down! Let's wreck de fuckin place! No surrender!"

"De fleg has been took down! Before ye know it there'll be a united Ireland! Attack Short Strand! God Save The Queen!"

To take something small, that doesn't quite qualify as a theft. Probably from the Danish "skæv" or the Dutch "scheef", both of which are pronounced similarly, meaning "askew, or not quite right'. To change an item's ownership without permission, but only something small and of little worth.
"I skeefed an apple off the neighbor's tree." "I skeefed some chips outta your bag when you looked away." "Don't skeef my chair when I go to the bathroom."

Hair spider

A tight, tangled knot of loose hair and lint that forms inside clothing during the clothes dryer cycle. It typically hides inside garments, causing an annoying lump or a phantom tickling sensation against the skin until it is found or falls out onto the floor during folding.
