Free non-commercial giveaway philosophy. The word is based on the world-famous internet band Lagoona from Sweden, who got several hit songs on the MP3 charts (including two #1 tracks on MP3.com) during the years 1997-2003. Lagoona gave away the music for free, and claimed that "giving away music for free makes us happier than if we'd keep it until a label released the material". With 7,000,000 million Lagoona songs downloads during the eight years the band existed, that philosophy got wide-spread.

Goonish material started popping up at many other places than in the internet music scene, and as of today, the word is widely used - especially in the northern parts of Europe. The term "goonware" has also been used in speech, and advertising sites have often had goonish classifieds, with statements like "Given away in the goonish spirit".

Due to the non-commercial nature, there can not be any form of goonish TV-commercials or sales advertisements.
"This is goonish stuff" means "This is free stuff that the creator wants us to have - with no commercial interest".

"Goonish file:" means "free-to-download files".

El Goonish Shive

A great webcomic written and drawn by Dan Shive. The characters are mostly eccentric and regularly funny, however sometimes there are bits of drama. Drawn in the anime comic style, though not completely influenced by it.
El Goonish Shive makes me laugh, weep, and keeps me on the edge of suspense!

El Goonish Shive

A webcomic written by Daniel Shive that flawlessly blends cartoonish nonsense with an interesting, engaging plot.
It takes some pretty decent writing to make you actually empathize with the characters of any story. El Goonish Shive is the only webcomic to achieve this effect.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
Some grebo passed with Sabbath playing on his stereo.
The Poppies are at no. 17? God, a grebo band in the charts!
