An individual addicted to video games that uses gaming (
pc, console, mobile) as an outlet to escape increasingly serious life problems. The gamercel, much like a labrat, is trained and rewarded for responding to certain stimuli in game. He/she
will sink vast amounts of their life time "levelling up" in game, while falling behind in their life off screen, specifically with relationships with members of the opposite sex. The gamercel purchases DLC (downloadable
content) using his
mother's credit card (even though he may be 40 years
old) or failing that, he toils at
work specifically to purchase in game items later.
He is the perfect consumer. The gamercel is the updated equivalent of the "couch potato" of the TV generation, renewed for the 2010s and 2020s.
