playing catchup

When your friends have already had a drink, but you are just starting you are "playing catchup".

From the TV game show "Catchphrase", with the legendary Roy Walker.
Mate, you're late and playing catchup.

DVR catch-up

'DVD catch-up' is when, while recording a game or other TV event on your DVR, you start watching the recording from the beginning - and as you come to the ads, timeouts, etc., you fast-forward through them, thus slowly catching-up on the event in real time.
Uncle Tony is so good at DVR catch-up, he usually syncs up with real-time just after the final ad.

Premature Catchulation

When an excited dog closes their mouth too soon when trying to catch a ball, causing the ball to bounce away off their nose
John- How's Sammy with the ball these days? Is she able to catch it?

Dave- Nah, gets so excited that when I throw the ball at her, she premature catchulates all over the place... She has a real bad case of premature catchulation.

catch up

To catch up from the times they haven't seen each other.

Cachupín

A regular dog. Used in Chile.
That super cachupín saved the store from those thiefs.

I fed the cachupín that had nothing to eat from the street.
