1. King of Ancient Mycenae (City-State in Southern Greek Peninsula) during the Trojan
War. Right after he came home from that
war, his wife, Clytaemnestra, and his cousin, Aegisthus, conspired against and killed him. (In many accounts, Clytaemnestra stabbed him in a bathtub.) After this, Agamemnon's son, Orestes, killed his mother and Aegisthus as retribution.
Agamemnon's homecoming is a major theme in Homer's Odyssey. The "Agamemnon incident" is brought up numerous times, especially when talking about
people coming home, traitors, and the faithfulness of wives.
2. (Verb) To brutally
kill someone.
1. "Dude! That's all well and good, but did you hear about what happened to Agamemnon? Oh snap! That bitch
killed him!"
2. If you
keep saying that, I'm totally gonna Agamemnon you.
