Cultural Control Theory

A critical framework analyzing how cultural norms, values, and practices are shaped and enforced to maintain social order and control populations. It examines how education, media, art, and language are used to normalize certain behaviors, marginalize others, and create a sense of inevitability around existing power structures. Cultural Control Theory draws on Gramsci’s concept of hegemony, showing that control is most effective when it is internalized as “common sense” rather than imposed by force.

Example: “Cultural Control Theory explained why generations of working‑class children were taught that ‘hard work’ was the only path to success—it deflected attention from structural inequality while making failure feel personal.”

Logical Control

The overarching dynamic in which participants in a discussion attempt to seize control of the logical ground rules—defining what counts as evidence, valid inference, acceptable sources, and proper reasoning—as a way to dominate the exchange. Logical Control often involves asserting one’s own standards as universal while rejecting any alternative framework. It turns debate into a struggle for procedural authority rather than a good‑faith exploration of truth. The one who establishes the rules controls the outcome, regardless of the actual merits of their position.

Example: “She insisted that only peer‑reviewed studies count; he insisted that only first‑hand observation counts. Logical Control: each trying to impose their epistemic rules to win by default.”

thumb-drive control 

Thumb-drive control - gets to the source of terrorism and prevents their use of guns as well..

Thumb drives cause terrorism (like guns cause killings). But we can reduce terrorism - by thumb-drive control - with regulations that take away the key device that terrorists use to promote killing. Raising taxes on thumb-drive sales could escalate the impact of this control.

Selling "thumbs-down" ribbons and bumper stickers will rally the supporters (- but you can expect some "sore-thumb" ideologues... to oppose it).

HE: Did you hear that terrorists are using thumb-drives to communicate?

SHE: We need thumb-drive control to put a stop to terrorism

HE: I wonder if brain control is needed here..?

SHE: What does that have to do with terrorism - or guns?
