Supdawg is an American slang greeting. It is a heavily corrupted contraction of the properly phrased question "What is up, Dog?". It's genesis is rooted in the American inner city neighborhoods of the 1980s where it has fluorished in the Hip Hop music subculture. It is notably in extremely heavy usage in the West Loop area of downtown Chicago centering on the intersection of Clinton and Van Buren streets.

Supdate takes the formerly shortened word 'sup' which is derived from the question:' what is up?' and combines it with update, which simply molds together the two following phrases: 'What is up?' and " i want to hear an update regarding your life and recent endeavors."

It can be used in several of the following fashions, "Hey Dude, supdate?" Meaning hello friend, what is up and please give me an update on your life.

Or, "Hey dawg, supdate?" meaning- hello cool guy, what is up and please give me an update on life.
