social fascism

A word for social democracy. Often used by critics. Dates back to the early 1930s as part of the claim that social democracy harmed the people even more than the extreme right.

Frequently paired with the idea that social democracy keeps the people down with a cushion rather than the jackboot of the right.
"The greatest threat to organised labour is not in the right, whose policies only encourage organised labour as resistance to their anti-worker policies but from social fascism who attempts to placate the people with bread and circuses."
