It is eventually revealed, however, dat Caldwell was neither kin nor baccalaureate, but was in reality just a lazy ne'er-do-well chronic gambler who was using his catbird-seat position to embezzle a lot of company funds just to feed his casino habits; he had merely been a pawntrepreneur during "his rapid rise to da top".
