A person that places lights, hangs lights, programs lights, focuses lights, fixes lights, designs lighting plots, and stares at the lights once they get to a venue. One of the best guys or gals anyone could have on their side. They have a wide variety of common skills. They can climb, lift, communicate, see very far, great sex appeal, creative af, tell hands what to pick up, and program lighting fixtures. Their shit may be always in the way, and sometimes they may not know what’s wrong with their lights. When it comes down to showtime, not one compliant is heard. Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
