Homo Eroticus(Homsexual Upright Man) is an extinct species of the genus Homo. Many believe its demise to be a direct result of it's homosexual tendencies. I.E., the species was extremely inefficient at reproduction.

Throughout much of the 20th century, anthropologists have debated the role of H. Eroticus in human evolution. Some claim that H. Eroticus is the first example of modern homosexuality. Other claim the species is a distant anomoly, unrelated to human (H. Sapiens) activity.

H. Eroticus remains an important hominin since it is believed to be the first to leave Africa. Scorned for its nefarious sexual acts, the H. Eroticus was forced out of its stronghold on the dark continent by more conservative Homo species.

The sexual attraction that exists between members of the same sex. It is not necessarily homosexual; rather it exists as a tension between heterosexual norms and expectations and natural attraction between two members of the same gender. It exists strongly in single-gender spaces, such as sports teams, rap music and pro-wrestling, however it is acted out through heterosexual norms, often placing a wedge between the homoerotic tension and the hetero norms of the space.

In professional wrestling, many of the moves are eerily reminiscent of sexual positions. The tension of these positions, in combination with extreme close proximity, creates homoeroticism. This is subverted by using derogatory slang towards homosexuals and women in particular, in order to reassert traditional masculinity and heterosexuality.

Male interaction that appears homosexual in nature, but is acceptable and not considered homosexual (by other men) because it done in a socially appropriate setting (i.e. sports).

For example, in sports like football when men slap each other on the ass, their actions are not homo-like because they are in uniform and playing a “manly” and aggressive game. Therefore their aggressive and manly behavior denotes the underlying homosexual tendency of slapping another man on the ass. "Oh that's not gay, they are just using homoeroticism"

Another example can be seen through the sport of wrestling, where men are frequently on top of each other in various sexual positions but are not considered homo because they are enacting manly behavior through physically fighting. They also scream demeaning names at each other like “bitch” and “pussy” in order to negate any thoughts of homosexuality by using a term that is generally demeaning to females.

Homoeroticism is the noun referring to the highly charged sexual tension brought about when two members of the same sex (usually men of whom one or both are generally believed to be heterosexual) behave in a way that displays closeness, sexual chemistry, flirtation and other actions that if were occuring between a man and a woman, it would be obvious that the two fancied each other and were probably shagging.

Some women (and gay men) find homoeroticism so exciting and hot that they read and write slash or bandfic which are stories that explore the possible relationships men who act in a homoerotic way in real life could have/be having.

Example:
When two hot male singers in a rock band are on stage and share a mic, rip off their shirts and hug, play-wrestle and sing lyrics about the intensity of their relationship. (See mic-sharing)

Person 1: 'wow the Libertines are fucking amazing, are the frontmen Pete Doherty and Carl Barat shagging?'

Person 2: 'well they both have girlfriends but all this homoeroticism must be making them both hard as hell, I bet they're all over each other as soon as this show finishes... it's certainly giving me a huge erection'

Person 1: 'it must be the sexually charged atmosphere in here, I've already come twice during this gig'

When one is attracted (and aroused) by people of the same sex as them but this act is not perceived as homosexual

Homophobia is fueled by heterosexuals who exaggerate the gender norms assigned by our society to validate their sexuality. Paradoxically, heterosexuals have found a way for homoeroticism to be socially acceptable while still placing negative emphasis on homophobia. By developing techniques to normalize heterosexuality and “other” homosexuality, the dominant group continues to mistreat and alienate those who are different from them. Homophobia targets marginalized groups that ultimately reproduces sexism, racism, and classism.

Women often experience homoeroticism when they look at Sports Illustrated swimsuit models and think that they look sexy.
