Meaning to act in a grimy or shady way. Somebody that is getting down is not looking out for you in that moment.

Your little cousin has to play Xbox with you so give him a broke controller
You : Here, your the other team.
Cousin : You gettin’ down ,I know this controller don’t work

Boyfriend: I was out with the guys

Gettin' Down 

The act of someone (usually a group of people) pushing the boundaries to have excessive fun. Gettin' down typically includes a wild scene of drinking, drugs, music, partying, sex, or any combination of the above.

Christian: Dude, there were at least 50 people here dancing to loud music till 6a.m. and most of us were pretty messed up.
Dave: Yeah, we were definately gettin' down.

Ted: You gettin' down tonight?
Jeff: Hell yeah! I'm eating a few X pills and going to watch that DJ.

This is what happens when an african american male of normal

sensibilities;for no apparent rhyme nor reason;begins rapping

and dancing like he is onstage at the mtv awards show.
he could be anywhere and in any situation when the mood
overwhelms him.

this action is similar to rerun getting down with rodger on the
sitcom "What's Happening" that was popular in the 70's.
