Technically Proficient. William Ewart Farvis (12 December 1911 – 12 October 2005) was a pioneering electronics engineer and educator. His war-time service was in electronic countermeasures that included developing and blocking radar signals to foil german bombing in Britain. In his subsequent career at the University of Edinburgh he initiated the Department of Electrical Engineering, establishing its capabilities in silicon device processing and enhancing industrial interactions through Wolfson Microelectronics.
