Acronym for Distributed Renewable Resources.
Distributed: Spread out, not in one location
Renewable: Always available, does not depend upon consumption of a limited resource
Resource: Thing necessary for accomplishing a goal; often, the goal is staying alive
(e.g., local solar / wind energy, rainwater collection, etc.)
DRR are often "
green" or ecologically friendly options. DRR would
help people live more independently.
As opposed to the Centralized Consumption Resources typical in industrialized societies.
(e.g., coal / natural gas / nuclear power plants, city
water treatment facilities, etc.)
Example 1:
We need DRR to prevent power blackouts & brownouts; and, to prevent
water shortages as
well.
Example 2:
DRR provide a much more robust
system than centralized resources; thus, helping prevent resource shortages.
