Iconic villain from the British TV series Dr Who. Though their appearance is robotic, the Daleks are actually little green blobs mutated from members of the Kaled species by their chief scientist, Davros, and placed in robotic armoured travel machines.

The Daleks were bred to become the superior beings by exterminating all other life forms, so that none could rise to threaten them. The eponymous Dr Who is the only thing has stood between them and universal domination

In real life, the Daleks were created by scriptwriter Terry Nation (who also created Blakes 7), while the Dalek machine props for the TV show were devised by production designer Raymond Cusick

IKEA Daleks

IKEA Daleks is a fan-given term to the "improved" designs of the Dalek villains from the long-running British sci-fi TV show Doctor Who. Daleks are the arch-nemesis of The Doctor and his alien Time Lord race. In S5E3 the IKEA Daleks were introduced. They looked the same as the original Daleks but with colourful Dalekanium (alien metal).

They look like the result of Daleks procreating with Power Rangers.
David: You know, Chris, whenever I see one of those new colourful Daleks I imagine M&Ms shooting out of their appendages.
Chris: Haha, you mean those IKEA Daleks? They look like toys, don't they?
David: Yeah! They look like they're made from plastic instead of Dalekanium.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
