When in fishing, 'trolling' is where a fisher slowly meanders a lake with bait in the water hoping to attract a fish to bite. On the internet, one can go 'trolling for' some sort of response, or activity.

Sometimes you hit someone up for sex, and that's called trolling for dick.

When the phone has been answered, the caller in his best Southern drawl asks if his buddy "Bubba" is there on the premises. A person who uses social network website like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc as a diary in which they post extremely personal things such as family deaths, break-ups, or other depressing situations that a normal person would not want to share openly in order to gain attention from people. Chronic sympathy trollers will post these types of updates weeks, months, or even years after an event has happened.

"Holy shit dude we don't give a rats ass about bobby's break up two weeks ago, but he still posts depressing crap on Facebook trolling for sympathy from anyone that is gullible enough to reply."
