someone who lives in the state of north carolina, but more commonly someone who goes to UNC..one kick ass school. most known for their mad skills in college bball, their biggest rivals are dookies, or alumni/students of duke u. aka the biggest losers in the world. the fans are loyal, the campus is gorgeous, and the colors are hot. (white and light blue)

Tar Heels were militia men from North Carolina who never ran from battle and always stood their ground, as if they had tar on their heels, so they were given the name Tar Heels. The Tar Heel is also the mascot of the University of North Carolina, which is a great school.

Tar Heel

1.) The nickname for any resident of the state of North Carolina. During the Civil War, a group of North Carolina soldiers scolded their comrades for leaving the battlefield when things got tough. The soldiers threatened to stick tar on the heels of the retreating soldiers to help them stay in the battle. General Robert E. Lee is said to have commented “God bless the Tar Heel boys!”

2.) The mascot for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Named after the state's history with the nickname.

Man that guy in a Carolina shirt rocking the ESSE QUAM VIDERI tattoo is certainly a Tar Heel.
