Surthriver

Surthriver: (noun) A person who not only survives adversity and challenges but emerges from them with renewed strength, resilience, and an enhanced sense of purpose. A surthriver not only endures difficulties but thrives in the face of them, using adversity as a catalyst for personal growth, positive transformation, and a deeper appreciation for life's possibilities.

The term "surthriver" emphasizes the idea that individuals can go beyond simply surviving challenges; they can use those challenges as opportunities for remarkable growth and flourishing. It highlights the power of resilience and the ability to thrive in the most challenging circumstances.
After facing a series of setbacks and personal hardships, Sarah emerged as a surthriver, using her experiences to fuel her determination and ultimately achieving her dream of starting her own successful business.

surthrival

Kira's 2020 surthrival has been impressive. While the rest of us fatted ourselves on delivery, booze, and Netflix, she quit smoking and drinking and got her own place!

Surthriving

1. Thriving off of being a "surviver" of some nebulous problem, usually a trumped up issue to justify inappropriate behavior.

2. Thriving off of being a victim.
"Joan has practically taken over group therapy from the therapist. She has organized a charity and three support groups, since she recalled her 'childhood trama'."

"She sure is getting a lot of mileage off it."

"Yeah. She is Surthriving, alright. She did this when she discovered she was 1/32nd Native American and again, when she heard about people using live dogs as shark bait. She is a Surthriver..."

Surthrival

Surthrival is a combination of survive + thrive when neither word is enough to describe the phase someone is in. Surthrival is moving past just surviving into thriving but not fully thriving yet and recognizes the baseline need to survive in an empowered way and yet embark on the process of thriving in the process.
I’m moving into a phase of Surthrival now and just signed up for an art class even though I’m still super busy working.

Allowing oneself to enjoy life even in the midst of a storm and under stress is part of being in a Surthrival state. It’s moving beyond just survival into thriving.

trucker's tan

A sunburn or suntan focused on the left arm. It is caused by the left side of the body being the only half that gets exposed to sunlight while driving. Presumably, it would be located on the right side of the body in countries where they drive on the left side of the road.

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
According to the boffins downstairs, the murderer used a serrated blade.
