A frustratingly futile task, especially one that keeps being attempted. Related to the Greek myth of Sisyphus, who is condemned to roll a huge bolder up a hill, only to have it roll down again, just before it gets to the top.

Sisyphication 

noun. Something that was previously attainable becoming a futile effort. Based off of the myth of Sisyphus, who was doomed to eternally roll a boulder up a mountain only for it to roll back down.

It's not possible to own things now, sisyphication has made everything into a monthly subscription.
