Verb: to use someone as a penpal or telephone buddy with no intention of ever meeting them In real life, often deceitfully, and most commonly with online dating.
Martha: I'm growing rather fond of Matthew, but I think he's scotch-egging me.
Elissa: Why do you think you're being scotch-egged by him?

Martha: He calls me every night but claims he's too busy to meet. Classic scotch-egg behaviour.
