Manufactured by Audi AG the Audi S6 is the middle class between the A6 and RS6 manufactured in 1994 the S6 has had several changes in its life cycle
first generation S6 (1994-1997) using a 2.2L straight-five cylinder engine or a 4.2L TFSI V8 engine as Audi was reconstructing thier model line up in the mid 1990's
next generation S6 (1999-2003) was V8 only offering a 5-speed auto transmission or 6-speed manual gearbox this was the first A6 to have Audi's "RS" performance badge nammed the RS6 available in sedan or Avant (wagon) the S6 used Audi's rally winning quattro AWD system to send power to all four wheels
third generation S6 (2006-2011) started production in 2006 with some serious changes under the hood the RS6/S6 of this generation used a 5.2L odd firing V10 that was also found in the Audi S8 of this same model year and 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo.
The fourth generation S6 (2012-2018) would unfortunately kill off the RS6 branding in the USA and be a European only vehicle. the S6 would switch to a 4.8L TFSI twin turbo V8 instead of the 5.2L V10
fourth generation facelift S6 (2015-2018) updated the look of the S6 in 2015 adding updated headlights and taillights.
fifth generation S6 (2018-present)
The all new design of the A/S6 would update the headlights to Audis brand new "Matrix LED Lazer" 2021 would finally bring back the RS6 branding to the North American market featuring a 4.0L V8 no update for the 2025 model Audi in 2022 would introduce the RS6 performance
