The substitution of trademarked product names with fake or phony product names in order to avoid the payment of licensing or advertising fees.

Product displacement is frequently used in the television and movie industries in the 21st Century as a means of representing a certain product without using the exact name to avoid any potential legal costs to the producers of the programs.

The movie "Lethal Agent" had so much product displacement in it. It looked like one big advertorial.
