"My mic had issues that I was trying to resolve, I understand text messages may not be the best way to communicate this and verbal communication may be more effective. Also I've been travelling a lot recently and haven't intentionally avoided any meetings."
"Sure, but can you tell me why you didn't notify me in advance?"
"It was a challenging time for me, a lot was happening simultaneously. I've had some personal errands I had to attend to."
