Caribbean slang for "understand," comes from the Rastafarian term "overstand."

The original idea for overstanding is that everyone is equal, so when people are talking they're on the same level. By saying "understand," it puts the person "under" the idea. By "overstanding," everyone remains equal.
"Me nah study dem tings, ya ovahz?"

"Wha ya say?"
"Ya nah ovahz me?"
