Orixás
An Orixá (or Orisha) is not a distant god sitting on a cloud; they are living forces of nature, archetypes, and ancestral spirits that connect humans directly to the divine. Each Orixá rules over a specific element of the world and human life. For example, Iemanjá rules the oceans and motherhood, Xangô rules thunder, justice, and fire, Ogum rules iron, war, and technology, and Exu is the chaotic, brilliant messenger god of the crossroads.
In countries like Brazil and across the African Diaspora, the culture surrounding the Orixás is massive, inspiring music, fashion, and everyday slang. When practicing, devotees don't just read about them; they experience them through drumming, dancing, and offerings, where the Orixás can literally possess initiates to bless the community. They are known for having highly distinct, human-like personalities, complete with favorite foods, specific colors, and unique flaws.

Orixás “You can always tell someone is a child of Iemanjá because they are fiercely protective of their friends but will turn into a whole tidal wave if you cross them.”
“Always pay your respects to Exu first, or your whole day is going to be full of chaotic misunderstandings.”
