Netsplaining

The internet phenomenon where ask you about a specific thing and the people of the internet tell you how wrong you are to want said thing.

Also, answering an online inquiry in the most unhelpful way. A specific way of trolling the hive mind.

Example:

Before I go shopping for one, are any of my friends looking to sell their lawn mower?

Netsplainers netsplaining: They sell them at Walmart. Try Lowe's. Just pay someone to mow it for you.

Example:

Does anyone know how to activate the missed call light on this specific model of phone? I can't find anything after several online searches.

Netsplainers netsplaining: Just check your missed call log. Just leave your ringer on. Google it. I never liked that light and neither should you. Jeff Parker says you've been netsplained.

The act of simply and unpretentiously explaining medical and nonmedical information about veterinary medicine to both medically trained and laypersons.

Let me vetsplain hyperthyroidism in cats to you.

In order to convey the severity of Fluffy's illness the doctor vetsplained the problem precisely and completely to the owner.

If only my veterinarian could describe my dog's problem in a way I understood easily....oh you need her/him to vetsplain it to you.

I explained to my puppy why it was wrong for him to pee on the carpet. Two hours later he peed on the carpet again. I should have realized petsplaining doesn’t work.

Nerdsplaining

(Nerd•splay•ning) Verb. To explain a subject, in excruciating detail, to someone who absolutely doesn’t give a shit. Similar to Mansplaining, except the victim is uninterested in the information being forced upon them, rather already aware of it.

My girlfriend had no interest in all of the mythological inaccuracies in Disney’s Hercules, but I couldn’t help Nerdsplaining them to her, anyway.
