A politically correct term for “academic aristocracy” in Singapore, where the government is primarily run by an elitist core of exam-smart graduates, who pay lip service to those with talents not defined by academic performance.
Lest the widening gap between the haves and the have-nots leads to a loss of votes, or spiral into street riots, overpaid ministers who rose up thanks to meritocracy are now toying with the idea of “compassionate meritocracy,” with the wealthy having a moral duty to contribute back to society.

of the Internet, those who can do, rule. Those who wish to rule, learn.
