masses

Common people, ignorant masses, etc...
A concept that may be understood as an extremely large group of people all over the world. All of them may not think for their own, either for economical reasons (lack of food/ too much exhaustive work), or just plain ignorance of the human sciences (lack of education).

The purpose of this social class is to be controlled by extremelly small groups of people through propaganda, they can hold any kind of ideas, they use the masses as means of power in the whole system.
A: join me and we'll have more parades and fireworks, national pride ftw!
ignorant masses: deal

B: join me and I'll give you social security and unemployment insurance.
ignorant masses: deal

C: join me and we'll take properties from evil burgeoise and everybody will be equal.
ignorant masses: deal

D: if you don't buy this brand new Iphone, you will not be as cool as your friends. Buy one today and get a 15% discount.
ignorant masses: deal

PS: the above examples have been extremely simplified, the model is actually 500 times more complex IRL.

Unwashed Masses

Unsophisticated people of a low socioeconomic status that don't eat lobster rolls for dinner at least twice a week.
Son: I'm hungry.
Mother: Do you want hot dogs or ramen noodles?
Son: Can we have lobster rolls?
Mother: No, lobster is too expensive.
Son: But all my friends...
Mother: I don't give a fuck what your friends eat you ungrateful little bastard.
Son: But mom...
Mother: There will be no lobster rolls in this house. Ever.
Son: You bitch!
Mother: Go to your room.
Son: Sorry mom. Can we get a Subaru?
Mother: This family does not drive a Subaru or eat lobster rolls.
Son: Why?
Mother: Because we are proudly among the unwashed masses. We are trash.
Son: Ok.
Mother: Don't forget you have therapy tomorrow at 3:30.

Bewildered Masses

Originating from Walter Lippman's commentating on mass culture, the 'bewildered herd' is the masses that are tamed through propaganda and mass media in order that the machine of democracy is kept properly oiled.

The bewildered masses must be subdued, tamed, and injected with the popular opinion of the upper class of politicians, heads of corporations, and all others belonging to the elite class of intellectuals and wealthy, in order to govern a nation and circumvent any defect in democracy.
The single function of the bewildered masses is to be spectators, not participants, in a democratic nation.
The bewildered masses give their power to a benevolent overlord who makes decisions (apparently) for the good of them all.
