from kerp- "to cut, seize, take" + klep- "to steal, conceal"

The parasitic mentality and structural root of human dependency on non-human animals, defined by the systematic seizure of their lives, bodies, and labor regardless of whether physical suffering or will-calculation is involved. In simplified terms, it is the animal use ideology and the fundamental act and mentality of humans taking non-human animals for selfish purposes. It precedes animal use and necessitates the false belief that animals are objects instead of someone. Animal use is its expression.

The primal mental and physical act by which the human animal cuts the non-human animal out of moral consideration by seizing them out of their own belonging—reducing a sentient individual to a means for selfish human ends (such as using a cow's skin as a jacket). Kep logically precedes both suffering and use: it does not decide how a being is treated, but whether that being belongs to itself.

Kepism is based on the problem analysis of the founders of veganism (Leslie J. Cross, Donald Watson, Fay Henderson), specifically addressing humanity's habit of acting as a parasite upon living creatures who can not resist their will. Coined in 2025 by Valerian (Animal Emancipation) to name the root act and ideology behind all animal exploitation.

Kepism

Kepism is the mentality of the parasitic dependency of human animals on nonhuman animals — regardless of suffering or what the animals want.

A simple way to say: Kepism is when humanity treats animals like things they are allowed to take and use for themselves — like food, clothes or labor and so on — even when no one is hurting them on purpose or when they are well cared for.

Kepism means: all the ideas that create and protect animal exploitation and the action itself. No matter what the animals want or how much pain is involved. It is the original idea/act as and the whole of it.

Kep is the idea and the action, that is for example “a cow is not a member of the moral community and can be used” as an idea is kep, and using the skin of a cow as a jacket is a kep. Or using (even found) feathers to make a blanket is kep.

Kep is the first act and every single act and idea that constitutes kepism.

A kep is for example cutting an animal out of the moral community or using a cows skin as clothing.

The word was coined by "Animal Emancipation"(Seethaler) in 2025 based on the theoretical problem analysis of Leslie J. Kepism

The parasitic dependency of human animals on nonhuman animals—regardless of suffering or what the animals want. Coined to name the ancient false belief that other sentient beings are mere objects or resources created for human use.

Much like a pickpocket doesn't need to inflict physical pain to commit a theft, Kepism focuses on the "taking" itself—whether it's taking a life, labor, body parts, or freedom for selfish human purposes. It is the root action and worldview behind all animal exploitation (such as clothing, food, or labor), sustained by a massive cultural blind spot and endless justifications.

It encompasses both the idea that animals are not part of the moral community and the act of e.g. using a cows skin as clothing and the euphemism calling that "leather".

Kepism

A "kep" is any act or idea cutting animals out of the moral community—such as treating a cow as a resource or wearing a cow's skin as a fashion item. Like a pickpocket stealing without pain, it focuses purely on the "taking" which reinforces the parasitic dependency. It relies on euphemisms (like calling mass-slavery-camps "factory farms") to keep exploitation invisible.

Used to describe a characteristic or trait that may appear extremely pompous, but for a person displaying kenism, it is completely true. While delivering a kenism statement, it is imperative to maintain an extremely straight face since by definition the statement can be misinterpreted as being pompous
