Japalermo

japalermo noun (plural japalermos)
1. (colloquial, chiefly Romania) A member of the Roma subgroup commonly known as the Gabors with hats (Gaborii cu pălărie), originating from Transylvania. The community is recognized for its distinct traditional clothing, particularly the wide-brimmed black hats worn by men.

Example 1:
“See those guys in the big black hats? They’re japalermos from Transylvania.”

Example 2:
“I’m not just Roma, I’m a japalermo — we’ve got our own traditions.”
