Impentinent 

“Penitent” means “showing remorse for having done wrong”: it’s where the word “penitentiary” comes from. So “impenitent” means the opposite: it means he’s not sorry for anything he’s done, any crime he’s committed. And it’s been spelled wrong, because it’s a prison tattoo.
