Fare come Tiziano

An Italian slang expression originating from Salò and the Lake Garda region. It describes the act of completely fumbling a guaranteed romantic or physical opportunity with someone, despite mutual attraction and clear green lights, due to extreme shyness, hesitation, or fear of making the first move.
The phrase comes from local lore about a guy named Mr. Tiziano who famously failed to make a move on a girl who was blatantly interested in him.
A key part of "fare come Tiziano" is the post-hoc rationalization: instead of admitting they were just scared or shy, the person creates absurd, far-fetched, and unbelievable excuses ("campate in aria") to justify why they didn't take action, completely convincing themselves that their unreasonable logic makes total sense.
It also gave birth to the popular exhortation "Non fare come Tiziano" ("Don't act like Tiziano" / "Don't do like Tiziano"), used by friends to urge someone to stop making dumb excuses and actually go for it.

Marco and Sofia spent four hours flirting at the bar, laughing, touching hands, and she literally told him her apartment was two blocks away. Marco ended up going home alone because he said "the humidity in the air wasn't ideal for a first kiss."
Leo: "Bro, are you serious? You totally did a Tiziano last night!"
Marco: "No man, you don't understand, the atmospheric pressure was all wrong..."
Leo: "Stop making up fake excuses! Next time she invites you over, non fare come Tiziano and just make a move!"
