A therapeutic process designed to help individuals overcome pornography addiction by "weening off" through a four phase program which it is believed reduces the physical and psychological dependence on pornography. The program consists of viewing hardcore pornography initially, with a self awareness of ones addiction, this then transitions into viewing pornographic images, reducing the graphicness of the material to slowly reduce ones dependence. This should then transition into viewing modestly dressed women when masturbating, allowing one to further reduce their addiction, before going into the final step, complete imagination and cognitive visualisation when jacking off. This is the last and ultimate phase of the Epstein Method, allowing one to harness their mental strength to stimulate themselves without external material, making it easy to then stop all together if the subject wishes to. This method has been criticized as it may not help people with severe addictions who have moved even beyond vanilla pornography into severe, violent and potentially illegal content. The method also has not been peer reviewed, however conducted studies show promising results for individuals.
