It first reached popularity from Quandale Dingle's 30 second long updates about his life, the sound serves as a cut scene that's supposed to jumpscare the listener to death. It's origin is a video uploaded onto Youtube of a man snoring. The popular version is sped up. Most people would describe it as the sound they would hear when sleeping in the same room as their father OR GRANDFATHER. Which is a popular childhood trauma in itself.
