"8" means literally "clap"

"8888" is a net slang with Japanese origin that expresses praise.

First used on Twitter and Japanese video sharing sites, this slang spread to stream sites, such as Twitch, and now to occidental net culture.

"8", which can be read as "pachi" (パチパチ) japanese for clapping , is applied as a word to indicate the situation of applauding when complimenting someone.

In other words, "8888" means "cracking crackling".

This "8888" is often used simply as the meaning of applause at the beginning and end of the video, but at the end, the meaning of praise such as "great" and "bravo" is emphasized.

In addition, the number of times this 8 is repeated depends largely on the preference of the user.

Sound of hands clapping together one after another in applause:
"cracking crackling" = "clap clap" = "pachi pachi" = ( パチパチ ) = 88

"888888888" is used on nicovideo.jp at the end of videos (usually songs) to represent clapping, due to the fact that 8 in Japan is pronounced "hachi", which sounds similar to "pachi", which when translated, means "to applaud or clap".
