A TfL London bus service that runs from Romford, Queen's Hospital to Brentwood Sainsbury's in Essex via Romford Station, Gidea Park, Gallows Corner, Harold Park and Brook Street. The route operates daily with a 20 minute frequency and was introduced on
December 26 2005 to partially replace route 351 between Romford and Brentwood which was withdrawn Mondays-Saturdays, but it wasn't until June 2007 that the 498 gained a
Sunday service so the 351 continued to run from Romford Station to Chelmsford on Sundays. On April 27 2013, route 498 was extended to Romford, Queen's Hospital. One of twelve London bus routes that also goes into Essex and serves
one of the most easternest part of the London bus network as a normal service (although school route 608 continues to Shenfield).
