woodkernes

An armed peasant who lives in the woods and is a predecessor to the North American "hillbilly." The "woodkernes" of Ireland were noted for being savage butchers given to ceaseless feuding and moonshining.
The conquering British referred to the Celtic rebels of Ireland as woodkernes. The word "woodkerne" was synonymous with "lightly armed peasant." So "woodkerne," means an armed peasant who lived in the woods of Ireland.

wonderness

The tour-like pointing/acknowledgement of unnoteworthy objects in an to attempt to over enhance a simple spectacle/visual experience. I have actually used the term "wonderment" for years within my family, but it was already taken at this site.
To ensure wonderness, my husband said "Hey kids...look at that inflatable snowman" while driving by the countless houses that also have inflatable snowmen. While on vacation in the country, "Hey, look at those cows and horses, they are probably going to eat that bale of hay soon" added to the wonderness of the trip. In the spirit of wonderness, the teacher said "Students, please look at how big that dinosaur is"!! "Big, Ben...Parliament" as in "National Lampoon's Vacation" is an example of wonderness. Again, wonderment is the preferred term.

Shackteâu

A Shackteau is a humble, weather-beaten, structurally questionable shelter located in a spectacular or highly coveted place—Wales, Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Crested Butte, coastal Maine, the Alps—where the building itself may be worth almost nothing, but the dirt, view, access, and mythology make it absurdly valuable.
