The point in which your mental decline goes from being linear, steady and constant, to exponential... like when a plane loses a wing and starts spiraling downwards. You either hit rock bottom or just die trying.

Well yeah, I mean I does seem like everything is going to shit but it's a little hard to believe...

Contrary to the common interpretation that it is meant in the general context for people to "keep going" in and through their life, it is really meant to mean seeking and experiencing the infinite depths of divinity within our own mind and consciousness without the fear of losing ones humanity. Spiral out and experience divinity while we are still human and alive.

The Downward Spiral

A conceptual album and the second studio album released by Nine Inch Nails in May of 1994. It revolves around an unidentified man who basically goes on a "downward spiral" essentially, or path to eventual and imminent self-destruction.
It went quadruple platinum, and was deemed (I can't, for the life of me, remember who said this) "The bleakest platinum album probably ever released."

The Downward Spiral basically put Nine Inch Nails on the map in the 90s.
