Penny wise, dollar dumb

Variation of "Penny wise, pound foolish"

When someone saves a penny, by spending a dollar.

"to be extremely careful about small amounts of money and not careful enough about larger amounts of money"
He refused to spend money in repairing the roof, and now the rain has ruined half his furniture- a plain example of Penny wise, dollar dumb.

penny-wise and pound-foolish

Where someone compulsively saves money by buying super-cheap-priced foods like crackers and white bread, not caring/realizing that these salty/sugary/"empty-carbs" foods will make him gain unhealthy weight in a hurry. Ben Franklin was always sagely expounding about stuff like this, and just look at da deplorable "tubby" shape HE was in!
That balloon-bodied dude with clogged arteries in the ER never eats health-food stuff "'cuz it costs too much" --- talk about "penny-wise and pound-foolish" --- what good is being a penny-pincher and "fattening" your bank account if you're also gradually fattening YOURSELF in the process???
Stephen king's greatest creation, Pennywise, is not actually a real clown. It is a malvolient entity that takes the shape of the thing you are most afraid of.
Humans cannot comprehend it's true form and anybody who has ever seen it has gone mad. Pennywise is actually a female, but preferes the shape of a male clown, because it attracts foolish children that eventually become the monster's food
Pennywise is the greates character ever created by Stephen King
