Offscreen is the act of killing another character outside of the audience's view. The character's corpse may be seen later, or confirmation may be given by another character, who witnessed the death/found the corpse.

Oftentimes, an excuse given for failure of the story to conclusively wrap up dangling plot threads, or explain away plot holes and continuity errors. The term originated in Smallville fandom.
Although Lois Lane and Kara Kent had not met on screen in the TV show Smallville, Lois claimed that they were good friends. The development of that friendship was said to have occurred in Offscreenville.
