- Discovered well before the first century, the term moonshit was thought to be named for its orb or crescent like appearance and it's ability to float seemingly in air. From Gothic origin, the term became popular in America in the early 1920's. Since then, although rarely used in civilized conversation, the term is occasionally brought up when appropriate.

After James finished wiping his ass he found moonshit.

1. An excessively hyped, ostensibly ground-breaking project or technological venture that is aggressively promoted as a "moonshot" but ultimately proves to be a costly, impractical, or total failure.
2. (verb, intransitive) To waste massive corporate resources chasing an unachievable, buzzword-heavy concept.

2. Usage: "Instead of fixing their core app, the engineering team spent all of 2026 moonshitting in the metaverse."

Shut up and drink your moonshine is a retort to someone who has made a racist, redneck or bump kind of comment.

After hearing Cletus extolled the goodness of the KKK, partygoers told him "shut up and drink your moonshine!"

Moonshine 

Moonshine is fermented, distilled ethanol. Depending on what you fermented, you get varying levels of toxic methanol. You can test for methanol by adding a little Moonshine to a borosilicate glass beaker or petri dish, adding boric acid or borax and some sulfuric acid, then burning it. If the flame turns green, then your Moonshine contains toxic methanol and it's not safe to drink, only safe for the laboratory. If the flame turns yellow and blue, it's just ethanol. If the fire turns red, you'll be dead because it has lead. Moonshine is fermented sugar.

I tested my Moonshine with the boric acid and sulfuric acid flame test! The fire was blue and yellow so it was safe and has no methanol or lead. It's just ethanol.

Moonshot 

In the Netflix film The Kissing Booth 2, Elle entered a dance tournament with the hopes of winning the prize money to help pay for private college. On the Ferris wheel scene with Marco, she defines moonshot as follows:

“It’s like something amazing that you want really badly, but its not super likely to happen.”

Moonshine 

Moonshine is distilled drinking alcohol(ethanol). First, you ferment a sugary drink(by adding yeast). Then, you distill it. The trick is, distill slowly and collect and throw away the first few shots. The first few shots contain methanol, a toxic impurity which causes blindness, kidney failure, and even death. Then, continue to distill and collect that ethanol. Most moonshiners who forgot to throw away the methanol impurity found out the hard way. Now you can enjoy properly made moonshine. Moonshine is awesome!

I just chugged some moonshine! Time to party!
