maphack

1. A mini-program that reveals an entire map of a game area. The program is used for games that generate random maps (most notoriously in Diablo II), and comes with several other features such as exact treasure find and location, and monster location (GPS-style). One other notorious feature includes targeting dueling opponents--from up to 5 screens away (Auto scroll lock). Because it gives the user a most unfair advantage, and also because many of these 'maphacks' become hacks of a different kind, such programs are considered illegal, especially when used in online areas.

MacHack

Now known as A.D.H.O.C, MacHack was a conference for Macintosh programmers that began in 1986. Some 'hacks' that emerged from the MacHack sessions were implemented in later versions of MacOS. Recently renamed because of the negative connotations of 'hack' in the media.

Drank some Jolt Cola when I went to MacHack, stayed up all night and screwed up the stack...

manhack

Derived from the video game "Half Life 2" a "manhack" is a small flying drone armed with three sharp blades that would chase the main character, Gordon Freeman, around during the early levels of the game. This term has been adapted in recent years to describe any AI or remote controlled roto-craft such as helicopter or quadrocopter that is out of human control.

either a noun or adjective describing someone who follows the hacker ideal, but is also physically active and generally a dangerous and mysterious person. Opposite of DRONE.
