But all this changes when he meets Kaori Miyazono, a young violinist, who tries to get him to play the piano again. And so Kousei, leaning on the one he loves the most, surpasses some of the most difficult moments of his life.
Unfortunately, all great things must come to an end, and he would face heartbreak once again. When Kaori, the love of his life, undergoes surgery in an attempt to prolong her life, so she could play one last duet with him. And she does, the 2 lovers play one last duet together, before she leaves him, forever...

At her funeral, his parents hand him a letter, addressed to him. And he reads it, he learns that Tsubaki, his childhood friend, loved him, however, the only 2 that didn't know were Tsubaki and himself. And learns that Kaori told one lie, she loved Watari(Hence the name, Your lie in April). However, his biggest and perhaps most devastating surprise, is this passage:
