Military jargon for "killed in flying accident." The most humiliating type of death for any self-respecting fighter pilot. Approximately 15,000 WW2 American aircrew died in flying accidents before they even left the country.

Clavero, a Spanish Republican fighter pilot, was exiled in the USSR and KIFA over Baku on 12 October 1942.
The first RAF fighter ace was KIFA in 1940, while showing off to his friends.
