A greeting between friends, used like "hi" or "hey." Generally responded to with a repeat of "honig." Typically used in passing.
Originates from the MIT chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi where David Honig was a notoriously antisocial brother. In particular, he reacted with pronounced paranoia to hearing his name spoken. Accordingly, his name started being used as a regular greeting amoung brothers.
A day celebrated once a year. This kid walked up to my bus stop and was like konichiwa and I thought he said Honiguigi, so for that day we stared saying happy Honiguigi day ! This day is very special and it has to be planned with your best friend. On this day you do stuff you would never do and try something new. Me and my best friend made it up so that's where it came from, in case you were wondering. No don't worry this day doesn't have to be celebrated but it would be a big deal to us if we could get people to celebrate it with us. Thanks:)

Honiguigi
Often used to compare and contrast between the poor and rich.
To express how poor and hobo-like you and your friends are.
"Look at those rich kids, drinking fancy beers at that restaurant!"
I know right!? Meanwhile we are being absolute Honiguru's, drinking beers from a can in the park"
